Stourport-on-Severn & Harvington Hall
Thursday 31st July
With a rich history, dating back to 1768, Stourport-on-Severn is almost unique as a town that was only built as a result of the coming of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal.
Stourport is a long way from the sea, but has the atmosphere of a true maritime holiday resort. Not surprisingly people from all over the region have been coming here for many years for a fun day out. It was once a busy inland port, which grew up around the point where the Canal joins the River Severn.
We have free time here to explore and enjoy lunch before heading to our next visit....
Harvington Hall is a moated medieval and Elizabethan manor house in the hamlet of Harvington. It’s history-rich interior holds enthralling tales of devotion and Catholic persecution. There are no less than seven priest hides here (more than any other house in England), as well as an impressive collection of rare Elizabethan wall paintings and many more historical tales.
There is a small tea room for refreshments before we head home.
