David Austin Roses, and NT Moseley Old Hall
Tuesday 1st July
Today we head to an attraction I have been trying to book for a number of years. Nestled in the Shropshire countryside the award-winning David Austin rose gardens are home to the National Collection of English Roses. There are six themed gardens to enjoy, plus a plant centre, gift shop, tea room and restaurant.
We have free time here to explore, as well as have lunch before heading to our next visit….
At the atmospheric Elizabethan Moseley Old Hall National Trust, we find out about the dramatic story of King Charles II hiding from Cromwell’s troops after he fled the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
See the bed on which the King slept and the priest hole in which he hid, and hear fascinating stories about what life was like in the 17th-century from tour guides and costume interpreters.
A variety of 17th-century plants, a fruit orchard and a striking ‘knot’ garden adorn the graceful gardens.
Then, there is a small tea room for refreshments before we head home.
