Heading north today, we travel to Welshpool for a return journey on the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway steam train.
There are toilets at both stations (but not on the train), a café at Llanfair, but not at Welshpool, so morning coffee may have to wait until Llanfair at 12:00 midday.
We will have an hour for lunch (café serves, soups, sandwiches, cakes and ice cream) and to stretch our legs before heading back to Welshpool.
We head back to the coach for our afternoon visit to Plas Dinam Country House near Llanidloes. Staying with the railway connection, Grade II listed Plas Dinam, in the village of Llandinam is the much loved family home to the fifth generation of descendants of the famous Victorian railway and mining entrepreneur David Davies.
A rare opportunity to be guided throughout the house by the owner, who will bring the history alive. During the tour we will be given time to enjoy our small museum, visit the much improved Victorian Stables and wander through the garden which is part of the Powys NGS.
