Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Cotswold Hills, Sudeley Castle is steeped in history.
With royal connections spanning a thousand years, it has played an important role in the turbulent and changing times of England’s past.
The castle was once home to Queen Katherine Parr, the last and surviving wife of King Henry VIII. Henry himself, Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, Queen Elizabeth I and Richard III have all played a part in Sudeley’s story. Following its ‘slighting’ on Cromwell’s orders at the end of the Civil War, Sudeley lay neglected and derelict for nearly 200 years.
The History of Sudeley Talk has been included for today providing a brief history of Sudeley Castle with one of their expert guides, providing us with the perfect introduction to our visit.
