Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey)

Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey)

A Hampshire Jacobethan style country house by the architect Charles Barry, with a park designed by Capability Brown situated in 5000 acres. It is the country seat of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon.

In 1922 the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun. Over 5,000 objects, works of art and everyday items were found in the tomb, providing an extraordinary insight into the Ancient Egyptian civilisation. Today, the current Earl and Countess have opened a new Egyptian Exhibition throughout the cellars of the Castle to celebrate the 5th Earl’s achievements.
