If Golden Fire has ignited in you a thirst for the wine of wild orchards and russet summer, then travel on a journey of discovery with Rural Concierge, Herefordshire’s premier travel co-ordinator.
With her passion for promoting Herefordshire and the rural countryside, Liz Hill has created a special cider holiday, new for 2016, to celebrate this Heritage Lottery funded project.
The Golden Fire Short Break is a wonderful opportunity to explore Herefordshire’s glorious countryside, learn more about the history of its famous cider industry, and sample much of its finest produce along the way. Local producers will be opening their doors to you, sharing their knowledge through talks, tastings and orchard walks.
The Golden Fire has a history as rich in flavour as the beverage itself and is saturated with tales which locals will happily share over a pint on a summer evening. You might learn that in the fourteenth century babies were baptised in cider instead of water because it was cleaner and that farm labourers’ wages included four pints of cider a week!
Not only will the Golden Fire Short Break immerse you in cider you will also have the chance to try the locally produced perries, made from Herefordshire-grown pears, and some of the newer craft ciders which are emerging.
If this isn’t enough to whet your appetite, the three-day tour includes a visit to the Hereford Cider Museum and a tour and tastings at the Westons Experience. Travelling between the attractions and cider orchards will take you on a journey through some of the most scenic locations in Herefordshire with views of Elgar’s beloved Malvern Hills to the East and the beautiful Black Mountains to the West.
This tour does come with a health warning though – Herefordshire is extremely addictive and once you have discovered us you will want to come back! The good news is that Rural Concierge offers such a diverse range of packages that you will have no difficulty finding another to feed your appetite and quench your thirst for more.
If you’re lucky enough to be living in Herefordshire, you can still make the most of Liz’s friendly and knowledgeable approach to tours. The Rural Concierge arranges a number of day-trips across the year taking in gardens, castles, concerts and so much more, with pick-up points in Leominster, Hereford and Ross on Wye.
Finally, if you would like a very special tour and you can’t find quite what you’re looking for on the Rural Concierge website, then contact Liz, Herefordshire’s very own walking reference book! Liz will be happy to create a tour to meet your specific requirements, and whether it’s for two people or a whole coachload, you can be assured of the same attention to detail and excellent quality service, ensuring you enjoy the best possible experience during your tour.
In the meantime, if the Rural Media Company’s film Golden Fire has sparked an interest in the story of the people, past and present, who make and ferment Herefordshire’s cider contact Liz Hill: 01432 370514 or 07966 378170, and book your tour today.
We hope to see you soon – cheers!
